What is the Bangladesh E-Passport?
Bangladesh introduced the electronic passport (e-passport) in 2020, replacing the traditional machine-readable passport. The e-passport contains an embedded chip with your biometric data, making it more secure and widely accepted internationally. All new passport applications in Bangladesh now use the e-passport system managed by the Department of Immigration and Passports.
Required Documents
To apply for an e-passport, you will need:
• Valid NID card (original and photocopy)
• Birth registration certificate
• Previous passport (for renewal applicants)
• Educational certificates (SSC/HSC or equivalent)
• Profession proof (if applicable — job ID, trade license, etc.)
• Two recent passport-size photographs
• Payment receipt from the designated bank
For minors, parents' NID and consent letter are additionally required.

4. Choose validity period: 5 years or 10 years
5. Pay the fee at any Sonali Bank or designated payment gateway
6. Book an appointment at your nearest Regional Passport Office
7. Visit on the appointment date with all original documents for biometric enrollment
8. Collect your passport when notified (3-21 working days for regular service)
Express service is available at higher fees for urgent travel needs.
